Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the MLA office in his Perambur constituency on Monday, July 13, 2026. He also distributed smart ration cards to beneficiaries in the area during the event.
Mr. Vijay, who is also the president of the TVK, contested and won from both Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East constituencies in the 2026 Assembly elections. Choosing to retain his seat in Perambur, he resigned from the Tiruchirappalli East MLA position. This visit marks his first official engagement in Perambur, two months after election results were announced.
To ensure a smooth visit, extensive security measures were implemented, including traffic diversions and barricades along the roadways. Members of the public were seen lining the streets to welcome their Chief Minister.
Renovated MLA Office and Community Engagement
During the inauguration, Mr. Vijay opened the renovated MLA office located at Sharma Nagar. He paid homage to the TVK’s ideological leaders, decorating their portraits with flowers. The event was attended by key ministers including Aadhav Arjuna, Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, alongside K.A. Sengottaiyan, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, P. Venkataramanan, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, and A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban, Minister for Transport.
The Chief Minister inquired about the facilities provided at the MLA office. He also issued certificates to five individuals who had applied for various services. Furthermore, he inaugurated the e-Sevai (e-Service) center on the premises, engaging read with officials regarding integrated development projects for Perambur and collecting petitions from residents.
Community Engagement and New Initiatives
After the office inauguration, Mr. Vijay took to the streets, greeting citizens and accepting bouquets. He visited a nearby ration shop to distribute smart family cards and food grains to select individuals. Additionally, he inspected the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s electric bus depot at Vyasarpadi, taking the opportunity to board and evaluate some of the buses available.
A new website, tvkcm.com, along with a mobile application, was launched for the residents of Perambur to report grievances efficiently.
The state government has outlined plans for significant civic infrastructure projects in Perambur, with an estimated cost of ₹1,013 crore projected for the next two years. Around 50 projects will be initiated, covering various sectors such as urban infrastructure, housing development, water supply and sanitation, public utilities, and higher education.
Approval of Local Area Development Projects
On the same day, Chief Minister Vijay approved seven projects under the MLA Local Area Development Scheme. These projects include a sports facility in Mayor Krishnamurthy Nagar (Ward 45), a cricket pitch and basketball court at Dr. Ambedkar Arts and Science College, a dialysis center in Ward 45, a gig workers’ facility in Ward 35, bus shelters at six locations, and modernization of anganwadis.
Chennai Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran commented, ‘Today, the Chief Minister had a brief review with officials of various departments regarding infrastructure needs in Perambur and North Chennai. We presented him with various developmental projects aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to formulate detailed project proposals and initiated actions for these schemes in the coming two years. He also sanctioned ₹3 crore from his MLALAD Fund for seven different projects immediately.’
