On Monday, the Karnataka government unveiled plans to establish 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas across 6,000 gram panchayats and 4,000 urban local body wards. This initiative aims to enhance youth engagement by focusing on sports and cultural activities. The government has released guidelines and a funding calendar for these organizations, with each sangha receiving an annual allocation of ₹10 lakh.
The initiative is expected to incur an annual expenditure of ₹1,010 crore for its successful implementation. The activities framework for these sanghas will encompass areas such as sports and fitness, community development, cultural and skill development, as well as forest and environment conservation, health and wellness, and youth empowerment.
Implementation Details
Approved earlier by the State Cabinet, the project will be spearheaded by the Sports and Youth Empowerment Department. Each sangha will employ a coach, with monthly remuneration set at ₹24,000. According to the guidelines, sanghas must register under the Karnataka Societies Act and consist of at least 100 members aged between 16 to 35 years.
To ensure equitable representation, a reservation roster has been established for the formation of each sangha’s executive committee. Additionally, the executive committee is set to operate for a duration of two years. The Chief Minister will preside over the State-level implementation committee, ensuring effective oversight and execution of the project.
