The Congress party is set to approach the forthcoming 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections under the guidance of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This announcement was made by Satish Jarkiholi, a senior Congress leader and minister, during a press interaction in Belagavi on Monday, July 13, 2026.
“There is no question of sidelining former CM Siddaramaiah. It has been clearly established that we will confront the next elections with his leadership,” Jarkiholi remarked to reporters at the Zilla Panchayat.
Strengthening AHINDA
In response to a question regarding potential leadership changes within the AHINDA organization, he emphasized that discussions on leadership alterations were unnecessary at the moment. “Our primary focus is to fortify the AHINDA and broaden its organizational base. Any changes will be communicated as they arise. Currently, our priority should be organizing AHINDA communities effectively,” he stated.
Cabinet Expansion and Farmers’ Concerns
On the subject of future cabinet expansions, Jarkiholi assured that the party’s high command would ultimately make the decision. “We are optimistic that senior leaders will devise a suitable strategy considering all relevant factors that will contribute to the party’s success in the upcoming elections,” he noted.
Addressing concerns raised by farmers regarding an increase in milk procurement prices, he mentioned that the appropriate Minister, along with the department, would make necessary decisions on the matter.
Water Supply and Weather Conditions
Jarkiholi further reassured that there is currently no scarcity of drinking water for both people and livestock in the district. He noted that sowing activities are nearly concluded and that indications of forthcoming rainfall are encouraging. However, he cautioned that if timely rains do not materialize, the government is committed to conducting a joint survey promptly and providing suitable compensation to farmers affected.
Demand for Fund Oversight
Additionally, he urged the Union government to treat allegations regarding the diversion of funds meant for the Ayodhya Ram temple with the utmost seriousness. “Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has already issued stringent advice and directives to the relevant officials to prevent such occurrences in Karnataka. The government is of the belief that donations received from devotees should be allocated to the development of the temples, and we will work towards that,” Jarkiholi concluded.
