The Electronics City police have swiftly resolved the murder of an unidentified man, later identified as Syed Rafique, within just 36 hours. The investigation led to the arrest of his son and son-in-law, who are accused of committing the crime over ongoing family disputes. The victim’s body was found dumped in a eucalyptus grove near Singasandra Lake.
The arrested individuals are Shahenshah, 27, the deceased’s son and an autorickshaw driver, and Syed Sharukh, 21, his son-in-law who works as a bike taxi rider. Both suspects have been placed in judicial custody.
Syed Rafique, a 50-year-old mechanic, was discovered dead behind an apartment complex in Vittasandra village, under the jurisdiction of the Electronics City Police Station. A murder case was initiated on July 4 following a complaint by a local resident who sought the identification of the deceased and appropriate action against those responsible.
Background of the Incident
According to police reports, Rafique was a chronic alcoholic and had allegedly harassed his family repeatedly. He had previously been admitted to a de-addiction center and returned to his native Tamil Nadu, but upon moving back to Bengaluru, he insisted on staying with his family and resumed his abusive behavior.
On July 4, a confrontation occurred between Rafique, his son, and son-in-law at Bommanahalli. Frustrated by his ongoing abuse, the two accused assaulted him, forced him into an autorickshaw, and subsequently strangled him with a rope during transport. They then disposed of his body in a secluded eucalyptus grove near Singasandra Lake, attempting to destroy evidence of their crime.
Investigation Progress
In a commendable effort, police established the victim’s identity and traced his family within 24 hours of the case registration. Utilizing clues gathered from the crime scene and its vicinity, investigators managed to track down and apprehend the suspects within 36 hours of initiating their inquiry.
The accused were produced in court on July 9 and are currently held in judicial custody. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with police actively seeking to uncover more details.
