NEW DELHI: The family members of two individuals sentenced to life imprisonment in the Ankit Sharma murder case, along with former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, announced on Friday their intention to appeal against the verdict issued by the trial court in the Delhi High Court.
During an interview with ANI, Mohammad Asif, the brother of convicts Nazim and Kasim, asserted that his siblings had been wrongfully implicated in the case and denied having any ties to Tahir Hussain. “We will appeal in the High Court. One of my brothers, the younger one, Kasim, lived in the village. The other one too had gone to the village two days before the incident. Tahir Hussain’s house is very far away; we had no connection at all,” Asif elaborated.
Asif further claimed that there was police misconduct involved in the case, stating, “The police brought them in and filed a case against them.” This highlights ongoing concerns regarding the nature of police investigations in sensitive cases.
Demands for Justice
In a separate conversation with ANI, Ankit Sharma’s brother, Ankur Sharma, expressed his views on the trial’s outcome, saying, “Our demand was that the court should treat this case as a ‘rarest of rare’ case, and that the guilty should receive the harshest possible punishment. They should have been given the death penalty; that is what we wanted.”
He emphasized that as the case progresses to the Delhi High Court or even the Supreme Court, the focus remains on securing justice for his brother and ensuring that severe penalties are imposed on those responsible for the crime. Ankur noted, “An example should be set so that such an incident never happens to anyone else.”
