An assistant electoral registration officer involved in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been suspended due to unauthorized absences from his duties in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. This action was confirmed by an official statement issued on August 1, 2026.
According to a release from the Palghar administration, Gopal Chaudhari, who serves as the group education officer for the Vasai Panchayat Samiti, failed to fulfill his responsibilities regarding the electoral rolls for the 132-Nalasopara constituency. The office noted that after his appointment, Chaudhari did not report for duty without prior notice or approval from relevant authorities, nor did he engage in any tasks associated with the SIR initiative.
The administration’s statement indicates that Chaudhari’s absenteeism and lack of diligence negatively impacted election-related activities within the constituency. His ongoing negligence, coupled with delays in his work, prompted the Palghar District Collector and District Election Officer to take swift disciplinary measures under the provisions established by the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
