Kerala is facing severe weather challenges as heavy rains persist across various regions, leading to reports of landslips and mudslides. In response to the situation, Chief Minister V.D. Satheeshan has reached out to key officials including the Revenue Minister, the Chief Secretary, and District Collectors to coordinate disaster prevention efforts.
The Revenue Minister is set to lead these initiatives and has scheduled a meeting with District Collectors at 11 a.m. According to the Chief Minister, emergency teams such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police are fully prepared to respond to any potential crisis.
Weather Conditions and Alerts
Overnight rains have been attributed to a slow-moving, well-marked low-pressure system situated over central India. In light of these developments, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has escalated the rain alert for Kerala.
A red alert has been issued for eight districts: Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, indicating that extremely heavy rainfall is expected in these areas over the next 24 hours.
Additionally, an orange alert has been declared for Thrissur, Palakkad, and Ernakulam, which warns of intense heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha have been placed under a yellow alert, where isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated.
