A flight transporting the remains of 15 Indian nationals who tragically lost their lives in a recent boating incident in Vietnam has successfully landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The Vietnam Airlines flight VN 979 from Ho Chi Minh City touched down at 9:19 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, according to sources.
Among the deceased, 10 hailed from Tamil Nadu, while three were from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Notably, two of the victims were women.
Transporting Bodies to Their Hometowns
The bodies of the victims are set to be flown to their respective hometowns, specifically Coimbatore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Trivandrum, as per the reports.
Details of the Tragedy
The incident occurred when a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists along with four local crew members capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai off Phu Quoc Island on Friday, July 10. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of 15 Indian tourists.
Fortunately, 16 other individuals were rescued and have since returned to India following necessary medical intervention. However, one survivor remains in critical condition at a hospital in Phu Quoc.
The tourists were reportedly making their return journey from an island visit when their speedboat overturned approximately 400 metres from Hon May Rut Ngoai island.
