NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Thursday that it found no evidence linking the alleged mastermind behind the paper leak scandal, Sanjeev Kumar, also known as Sanjeev Mukhiya, to the theft or distribution of the NEET-UG 2024 question paper. This revelation comes despite his initial inclusion as an accused in the FIR filed by the Bihar Police.
According to the CBI’s statement, Mukhiya was named in the FIR by the Bihar Police following the detection of the NEET-UG paper theft in 2024. His alleged involvement in previous examination paper leak cases contributed to his designation as a suspect. However, upon transferring the case to the CBI, the agency undertook a thorough investigation that led to the identification of all individuals involved in the theft and distribution of the stolen question paper, as well as the beneficiaries of these actions.
Investigation Findings and Charges
The CBI reported that it has filed multiple chargesheets against a total of 45 accused persons before a Patna court. However, throughout the course of its investigation, the agency did not find any substantial evidence establishing Mukhiya’s involvement in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak conspiracy. The CBI noted, “Mukhiya remained absconding during the relevant period and was later arrested by Bihar Police. Since he was named in the FIR, the CBI took him into police custody for questioning in the NEET-UG 2024 case. However, no evidence of his involvement emerged during the investigation.”
Outcome for Mukhiya
Consequently, the CBI opted not to include Mukhiya’s name in any of the chargesheets related to this specific case. Following this, he successfully secured bail regarding the NEET-UG 2024 matter. Despite this development, the agency confirmed that he remains in judicial custody concerning other investigations being initiated by the Bihar Police.
In conclusion, the CBI emphasized that its investigation has successfully unveiled the complete conspiracy behind the NEET-UG 2024 paper theft and affirmed that all individuals involved are being held accountable for their actions.
