The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a comprehensive cleanliness campaign across the city, responding to directives from the Bombay High Court. This initiative will see the installation of CCTV cameras at critical garbage dumping locations and the imposition of strict penalties for individuals caught littering or dumping waste illegally.
With a focus on enhancing overall cleanliness in Mumbai and its suburbs, the BMC’s Solid Waste Management Department aims to prevent open dumping and eliminate *Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs)*, areas where waste is consistently disposed of improperly.
On August 1, Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide instructed Assistant Commissioners from all ward offices to carry out regular inspections, maintaining high sanitation standards within their respective areas.
Key Features of the Cleanliness Drive
The drive implements a strategic approach to monitor all identified GVPs through CCTV, aiming to deter illegal dumping through strict penalties. The Corporation has systematically identified and mapped these points on Google Maps, allowing for detailed analysis concerning the types of waste and deficiencies in current waste management practices.
Furthermore, the BMC is committing to resolving traffic congestion on major thoroughfares, prioritising pothole complaints submitted via the *Marg App*. Immediate actions will also be taken against unauthorized constructions throughout Mumbai, reinforcing the Corporation’s overall commitment to urban management and cleanliness.
