The flood situation in Assam has shown some improvement, with the number of individuals affected now at 1.78 lakh. However, the deluge’s impact has expanded to seven districts, according to an official report.
No new fatalities have been reported in the state over the last 24 hours, keeping the death toll stable at 82, as stated by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in a bulletin released on Saturday night, (August 1, 2026).
The Dikhow and Dhansiri rivers continue to flow above the danger level in regions like Sivasagar and Numaligarh (Golaghat), respectively, the report noted.
Extent of Impact
A total of 349 villages across Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, and Jorhat districts are still grappling with the aftermath of the flooding. Among these, Charaideo has been the most severely affected, impacting 75,199 individuals, followed by 58,824 in Sivasagar.
The previous day, (July 31, 2026), the total number of affected individuals across five districts was reported to be 1.92 lakh.
Relief Efforts and Damage Assessment
Currently, 44 relief camps are operational in Assam, providing shelter to approximately 15,000 displaced persons. Additionally, 17 relief distribution centers have been set up to assist 5,569 people with necessary supplies.
The floods have adversely affected a crop area of 15,060 hectares, with reports indicating that 1,543 animals were washed away and an additional 6,765 were impacted by the floods.
Infrastructure damage has also become a major concern, with reports of destruction to houses, roads, bridges, schools, and cattle sheds across various regions, as detailed in the ASDMA bulletin.
