Changes in UPI Transaction Charges

Starting October 15, adjustments to charges for Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in India will be implemented, impacting various payment categories. These changes are part of efforts to streamline transaction costs for specific types of transactions while keeping others free.

No Cost for Small Transactions

Notably, digital payments made via UPI under Rs 2,000 will continue to be processed without any service charges. This initiative is designed to maintain the ease of low-value digital transactions for users, encouraging widespread adoption of cashless payments.

Transactions Attracting a 0.4% Charge

For transactions exceeding Rs 2,000, a new charge will be introduced. Such operations will incur a fee based on a rate of 0.4% of the transaction value. This adjustment is aimed at managing the operating costs associated with handling larger sums.

Standard Fee for Select Services

Certain services, irrespective of the amount, will now come with a fixed service fee if paid through UPI. Specifically, tickets for railways, payment for fuel, insurance premiums, and utility bills will attract a flat fee of Rs 5 per transaction. This move targets areas where administrative and processing expenses are generally higher.

Free Transactions for Personal Use

The changes preserve free transactions for personal payments, ensuring that sending money to friends and family remains without charge. Additionally, subscribing to online streaming services via Autopay will not incur any fees, maintaining convenience for users who rely on automatic payments for entertainment subscriptions.
