Young Talent Joins ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’

The beloved series “Thomas the Tank Engine” is about to embark on a fresh journey with a new voice behind its iconic character. A 13-year-old from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, Harry Sparkes, has been cast as the voice of Thomas in an upcoming animated series. This marks Sparkes’ debut in voice acting, a role he has enthusiastically kept under wraps among friends by inventing a cover story about attending physiotherapy sessions.

A Childhood Dream Realized

Harry Sparkes expressed his exhilaration at being part of a series he adored as a child. “It’s surreal,” Sparkes admits, reflecting on his transition from a fan to the actual voice of Thomas. He anticipates that revealing this secret to his friends will be met with surprise and excitement.

Star-Studded Cast Joins the Journey

The new series, titled “Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories,” also features actor Henry Golding, known for his roles in “Crazy Rich Asians” and “The Gentleman,” as the series narrator. Golding follows in the footsteps of previous narrators, including Sir Ringo Starr and Pierce Brosnan, contributing his own flair to the storied franchise.

Returning to Roots with Modern Twists

Franchise owners Mattel are bringing Thomas and his friends back to life in three-dimensional animation. The series will combine elements of the original charm with contemporary updates for a new audience. They are reintroducing Sodor’s famed railway world, which has captured imaginations since Reverend Wilbert Awdry’s books first debuted in 1945.

Upcoming Launch and Availability

The new adventures of Thomas will premiere online via the Thomas & Friends YouTube channel on September 17, transitioning to Netflix by the end of the month. A full-length series is anticipated for an early 2027 release, ensuring that new generations continue to enjoy the timeless tales of Thomas and his friends.
