On the morning of August 3, 2026, a fire broke out in two coaches of the Samastipur-Saharsa MEMU train at the Simri Bakhtiyarpur station located in Bihar’s Saharsa district. Fortunately, officials confirmed that there were no casualties reported in the incident.
According to a statement given to PTI by Saraswati Chandra, the Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway (ECR), the incident unfolded shortly after the train’s arrival at the station around 3 a.m.. The station master alerted authorities about a fire in the motor coach of the train, which rapidly expanded to an adjacent coach.
The initial response involved utilizing fire extinguishers; however, these proved ineffective in controlling the flames. Following this, firefighting tenders were summoned to handle the situation. Thanks to timely action, all passengers were safely evacuated from the train. Additionally, the overhead equipment (OHE) was switched off for safety measures. Finally, the blaze was brought under control by 5:50 a.m..
In response to the fire, an inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident. Train services along this route experienced a disruption lasting approximately two hours as a result of the fire emergency.
