NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that he would forgive the young protesters who have been accused of verbally abusing him and his late mother. He described them as “misguided children,” emphasizing that it is “our job to show them the right way.”
In a heartfelt video message, Modi remarked that punishing these youth and sending them through the legal system would not improve their circumstances. He expressed that these young individuals have lost their way and stressed the importance of guidance over harassment.
His remarks come in the wake of recent incidents where criminal charges have been filed against some young protesters for their abusive language during a student protest at Jantar Mantar. Modi stated, “Everybody saw what happened at Jantar Mantar. They abused not only me but also my late mother. It was such a vile thing. But I want to say today that mistakes happen at a young age, and this is also the opportunity to correct those mistakes.”
Emphasizing his intention to forgive the youngsters, he added, “Society should also accept my decision.” This indicates a clear intention to withdraw the cases against these protesters, as Modi has demonstrated similar sentiments in the past. As the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had previously forgiven a young individual accused of sending him threatening emails, according to sources.
