Kerala is gearing up for expected heavy rainfall and potential flooding on Sunday, August 2, 2026, marking yet another chapter in a series of stormy days that have caused significant disruption across the state.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert across 12 districts. The warning highlights the likelihood of heavy downpours, along with the risks of flash floods, mudslides, and inundation affecting roads and neighborhoods in the following districts: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod.
Interestingly, there have been no weather alerts issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. Nevertheless, the IMD has warned fishers against venturing into the rough seas due to dangerous weather conditions.
Government Preparedness Measures
In response to the impending threat, the government has instructed district administrations to be ready to tackle any emergencies that may arise. Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Kerala State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units have been requisitioned for immediate deployment and are stationed in areas most susceptible to mudslides and flash floods.
