All Blacks Dominate Australia to Retain Bledisloe Cup
In a thrilling display at Eden Park, New Zealand showcased their rugby prowess by defeating Australia and retaining the Bledisloe Cup for the 23rd consecutive year. The victory not only extended the All Blacks’ unbeaten streak at their home ground to 54 Tests, but also marked a powerful comeback after their recent losses to South Africa.
New Zealand excelled in the second half, turning what was a close contest into a convincing 50-19 win. By halftime, Australia remained a mere three points behind, with the score at 17-14. However, the All Blacks stormed through the second half, adding five tries to their tally.
Their try scorers included Peter Lakai, Tupou Vaa’i, Cam Roigard, Codie Taylor, Leroy Carter, Josh Moorby, and Will Jordan. Fly-half Damian McKenzie played a crucial role with his precision kicking, contributing an impressive 15 points to the scoreboard.
Australia had hoped to break their long standing drought at Eden Park, where they last won in 1986. Despite an encouraging start with a try from Tom Wright and a fighting spirit that saw captain Harry Wilson cross over, the Wallabies couldn’t maintain their momentum as the All Blacks’ relentless attack proved too much to handle.
The defeat was a setback for Australia under their new head coach, Les Kiss, who had seen the team enjoy a six-match unbeaten run since taking over. As they prepare to host the second match of the series in Sydney, the Wallabies will aim to reassess and challenge New Zealand’s supremacy.
This victory provides New Zealand with a much-needed morale boost after their earlier series loss and sets an invigorating stage for the next encounter with Australia at the Accor Stadium on October 17.
