Landslip in Tirthahalli: Three Missing, One Injured Amid Heavy Rains

In a tragic incident on Sunday, August 2, 2026, a landslip in Tirthahalli has resulted in the disappearance of three individuals and left another injured. The landslide occurred during heavy rains when a section of a hill at Gandhi Nagar collapsed around 3:30 a.m., causing substantial damage to nearby homes. The collapse of a retaining wall designed to protect residents is believed to have triggered the landslide.

Three members of a family from Gangavathi, located in the Koppal district, are currently thought to be trapped under the rubble. The local taluk administration promptly deployed a rescue team in the early hours, and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services managed to rescue one individual. The injured person has been transported to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga for medical care.

Local MLA’s Response

Araga Jnanendra, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Tirthahalli, visited the site on the morning of the incident. He confirmed that the victims were laborers who had migrated from various regions of the State in search of work.

“Three members of a family, including a child, are believed to be trapped under the debris. Efforts are ongoing to locate them. Fortunately, the person who was rescued is no longer in danger,” Jnanendra stated.

Rescue Operations Underway

High-ranking police and revenue officials are currently present at the site, diligently monitoring the rescue operations. The community remains hopeful for a positive outcome as efforts continue to locate the missing individuals amid the challenging conditions.
