In a move that’s been warmly received by fans, Hollywood figures Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have purchased The Turf, a venerable pub steeped in football heritage, closely linked to Wrexham AFC. This acquisition underlines their ongoing commitment to safeguarding the club’s historical assets.

The Turf, which dates back to the 19th century, is renowned for being the birthplace of Wrexham AFC, the oldest football club in Wales, established in 1864. The pub’s history is deeply intertwined with the club, right from the early days when players would change there before taking to the Racecourse Ground pitch. Throughout its history, The Turf has remained a cornerstone for fans and has recently gained fame through the “Welcome to Wrexham” series.

The purchase, from previous owner Admiral Taverns, aims to unify the ownership of The Turf, the Racecourse Ground, and Wrexham AFC. This strategic move ensures the protection and enhancement of this cultural landmark, with promises of improved facilities for fans. As part of this initiative, Wayne Jones will continue as the landlord, bringing his two decades of experience to maintain the pub’s unique historical vibe.
