Richard Hammond Finds New Adventure in Welsh Countryside

Richard Hammond, celebrated for his vibrant presence as a co-host on Top Gear, has embarked on a fresh journey in the serene surroundings of Abergavenny, Wales. Moving away from the fast-paced lifestyle of TV motoring shows, Hammond has cultivated a newfound appreciation for the scenic beauty and tranquility of the Welsh landscape.

In November 2025, Hammond relocated to a Georgian mansion in Llanwenarth, Monmouthshire, following his separation from his wife Mindy after over two decades of marriage. The move signified a dramatic shift from his previous life dominated by vintage cars and bustling cities, as he now embraces the peacefulness of rural Wales.

A Life Reimagined: From Cars to Nature

Hammond’s new home, nestled near the famed Brecon Beacons, has provided him with a fresh perspective and a host of activities to explore. He’s taken up wild swimming and feels more daring than ever, frequently tackling the nearby Sugar Loaf Mountain. “Every day here offers a new reason to love my life,” Hammond fondly remarked.

Adjustments to his property are underway, aiming to blend modern comforts with the estate’s historic charm. He plans to add car garages and a padel court, alongside improvements for hosting guests. Importantly, he has displayed an admirable commitment to environmental conservation, even as rare bats residing near his estate momentarily paused renovation plans.

New Passions and Community Engagement

The Welsh market town has become a vibrant part of Hammond’s life, as he joyfully participates in local events and activities. This year, instead of attending high-profile racing festivals, he immersed himself in the rustic charm of the Abergavenny Food Festival, savoring local delicacies and mingling with residents.

Embracing an active lifestyle, Hammond has joined a running club in the town, improving his fitness and reducing his 5k run time to under 25 minutes. Inspired by his partner Keira “Kiki” Glen, he has also tried his hand at triathlons, a pleasant diversion from his former racing career.

Reflecting on the Past and Looking Forward

Though Hammond’s time with Top Gear significantly shaped his public persona, he acknowledges that times have changed and that the show’s past dynamics may not fit today’s audience. With the BBC hinting at the program’s return, Hammond remains open to the possibility of revisiting the series that catapulted him to fame.

As Hammond reinvents his life amidst the lush hills and community-driven atmosphere of Wales, he demonstrates a graceful embrace of change, finding fulfillment in new adventures and connections with nature.
