Noel Gallagher’s Guitar Fetches Remarkable Auction Price

In a recent auction, Noel Gallagher’s distinctive Epiphone guitar managed to secure a winning bid of £12,000. The instrument, notable for its Manchester City blue hue, was one of several items sold by the son of Huw Richards, a former sound engineer for the band Oasis. This sale took place at Littleton Auctions in Worcestershire, drawing significant interest from collectors and fans alike.

Among the other fascinating items connected to the celebrated band that were auctioned, a Kangol rain jacket originally worn by the band’s crew went for £2,000. Additionally, a set of 11 platinum discs recognizing the phenomenal sales of their album What’s the Story Morning Glory was purchased for £2,000. These discs, presented to Richards by Creation Records, commemorate the UK’s over 3.3 million sales of the iconic album. The auction also featured assorted tour-related memorabilia, itineraries, promotional materials, and a unique Be Here Now wristwatch.

Excitement and Legal Hurdles

However, not all items managed to see their way to the auction block. A collection known as The Desk Tapes, which included unheard recordings of Oasis consisting of live shows, soundchecks, and rehearse hours from the 1990s, was pulled due to a legal injunction filed by the band. This set of recordings was initially anticipated to fetch between £1.2 million and £1.6 million.

Adding to the mix of items, a rare ticket from The Rain—Oasis’s initial band name—took £2,400, while an early demo tape of the group was sold for £3,600. Furthermore, a collection of early photographs of Oasis secured £5,400, and a pair of shoes once owned by Noel Gallagher went for £1,200. Surprisingly, a baby grand piano linked to the Supersonic single’s artwork remained unsold despite valuations between £100,000 and £150,000.

Cultural Significance of Oasis Memorabilia

The auction highlighted the enduring appeal and cultural significance of Oasis. Fans and collectors are willing to spend significant sums to own a piece of British music history. The varied items sold at this event underscore the band’s lasting influence on music and popular culture. Although the sale of certain high-profile items like The Desk Tapes was deferred, the enthusiasm surrounding this auction reflects the ongoing fascination with one of the UK’s most beloved bands.

As legal matters are resolved regarding the snarled recordings, what sold at the auction will continue to excite fans and collectors, ensuring Noel Gallagher and Oasis remain central figures in rock history.
