Unexpected Cinema Birth: A Magical Addition

A routine cinema outing turned extraordinary for 32-year-old Molly Connah and her family in north Wales. While attending a screening of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at Cineworld in Broughton, Flintshire, Molly unexpectedly went into labour. This surprise arrival resulted in a one-of-a-kind entry on her daughter’s birth certificate, listing the place of birth as the Broughton cinema.

On the day after her due date, Molly decided to enjoy a family day out with her nine-year-old son, Alfie, her partner Scott, and her parents. They had all gathered for the movie when, about 40 minutes into the film, Molly began to experience intense labour pains. She recalled the specific moment during the film when she realized something significant was happening, during a scene where characters Hagrid and Harry shop for Hogwarts supplies.

Staff at the cinema swiftly responded to the unfolding situation. Manager Michelle McClean and team leader Leah Prytherch were instrumental in helping manage the event, providing sheets and towels to ensure privacy while waiting for paramedics. Despite the unexpected locale, Molly managed to give birth to a healthy baby girl named Elsie Lamb without immediate medical assistance, only moments before a paramedic arrived.

Scott, Molly’s partner, rushed to the cinema, unfortunately missing the birth by mere seconds. Post-delivery, Molly and Elsie were transported to Wrexham Maelor Hospital for further care, with both now reported to be doing well. Described as content, baby Elsie has become a local story of interest due to her unusual birthplace.

In gratitude, the family returned to Cineworld later, bearing gifts and tokens of appreciation for the staff who assisted during their ordeal. The cinema honored the family’s unique story by gifting them cinema passes, enabling them to eventually finish the movie that became memorable for reasons beyond just its plot.
