The flood scenario in Assam witnessed a slight improvement on August 2, 2026, despite the unfortunate report of three additional fatalities, which have increased the overall death toll in this year’s floods to 85, as per an official bulletin.
All three fatalities were confirmed in the Sivasagar district. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), approximately 1.35 lakh individuals are currently affected across five significant districts: Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Sivasagar. This is a decrease from nearly 1.8 lakh people affected just the previous day.
Sivasagar district remains the most severely impacted, with over 55,000 residents affected, followed by 40,000 in Charaideo and 22,000 in Jorhat. ASDMA has reported that 335 villages have been inundated, and approximately 15,422 hectares of farmland have suffered damage due to the flooding.
Government Relief Efforts
The local authorities are actively managing 54 relief camps and distribution centers across the affected districts, providing assistance to around 13,771 individuals currently relying on these facilities.

Additionally, the Dhansiri river is reported to be flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh, raising concerns among residents and officials alike.
