The construction of a new building at the Government Taluk Hospital in Koyilandy is set to conclude within a year, with plans for the hospital to be upgraded to district status immediately following its completion. This announcement was made by Health Minister K. Muraleedharan during a review meeting that included elected representatives and members of the Hospital Development Committee, held during his visit to the hospital on July 13.
During his address, Minister Muraleedharan indicated that District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty has been directed to allocate 10 cents of adjacent Revenue land for temporary facilities, which will include a mortuary, until the new building is ready for use.
The Minister also revealed exciting developments for the hospital, stating, “A blood bank will be established at the hospital soon.” He expressed a commitment to filling the four vacant Medical Officer positions in the emergency wing promptly, along with hiring for the roles of assistant surgeon, radiologist, anaesthetist, and junior consultant (Surgery).
Expressing the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services, Minister Muraleedharan emphasized the importance of ensuring that patients are not left to lie on the floor in government hospitals. He highlighted that efforts will be made to upgrade the physical infrastructure of government hospitals statewide, leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from public sector undertakings.
The meeting was presided over by K. Praveen Kumar, MLA, who also contributed to discussions regarding the hospital’s development and the necessary upgrades to healthcare facilities in the region.
