The Tamil Nadu government is acutely aware of the existing gap between education and employment within the state, and measures to address this issue will be implemented promptly, stated Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar during an event on Saturday.
While speaking at the closing ceremony of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Patrician College of Arts and Science, Mr. Prabhakar remarked that the policy gaps have resulted in numerous degree and diploma holders struggling to secure jobs that align with their qualifications. He emphasized, “There is a gap in jobs suited for education, remuneration commensurate with talent, and revenue earned from the knowledge acquired.” One contributing factor to this disparity, he noted, is the rapid proliferation of engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu, despite the presence of numerous Arts and Science colleges offering innovative courses.
In his address, he assured attendees that the government is committed to enhancing job security for the youth. “The chief minister has asked for some time to implement his policies,” he added, indicating a proactive approach to resolving these challenges.
Emphasis on AI and Upskilling
Additionally, R. Kumar, the Minister for AI, IT, and Digital Services, spoke about how the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed various sectors globally. He urged that all departments should embrace AI as a pathway to success. “Students should not stop with their degrees but upskill themselves to prepare for the forthcoming advancements in this technology,” he advised, highlighting the importance of continuous learning in a rapidly changing job landscape.
Recognition of Contributions
The event also included the recognition of retired faculty members and staff for their invaluable contributions to the college community. Present at this significant occasion were notable figures including Brother Vincent George, Director and Secretary of Patrician College; Bro. S. Arockiaraj, Province Leader of the Patrician Brothers; Bro. Jerome Ellens, Community Leader; Arokiamary Geetha Rufus, Principal; and Fatima Vasanth, Academic Director.
