More than 17,000 HT Electricity Consumers Benefit from HT Mithra App, Awareness Remains Low

Over 17,000 high-tension (HT) electricity consumers have experienced advantages from the HT Mithra mobile application. Despite its benefits, industrialists emphasize a significant lack of awareness regarding its usage among consumers.

B. Murali Krishna, an industrialist and President of the Peenya Industries Association, remarked, “The HT Mithra mobile application is truly effective and user-friendly. It has aided numerous industrialists in lodging complaints and ensuring timely resolutions. The app has been designed with consumer grievances in mind. However, awareness about its functionality remains limited among users.”

He further stated, “We have requested officials from Bescom to organize meetings with industrialists within its jurisdiction to increase awareness about the app, encouraging more downloads and usage. A meeting in this regard is scheduled to take place soon at a subdivision office in Peenya.”

The HT Mithra app was introduced in April 2026, aiming to support HT consumers, including industries, large commercial establishments, hotels, and more, in registering complaints concerning power supply, billing, safety, and more timely resolutions.

Significance of HT Consumers

N. Shivashankara, Managing Director of Bescom, highlighted that HT consumers represent only 0.15% of the total consumer base but contribute a hefty 30% to Bescom’s revenue. From April 2025 to March 2026, HT consumers generated total revenue of ₹10,696.59 crore. To facilitate efficient resolution of complaints, a mobile app and a web portal were launched.

Shivashankara drew attention to the procedural differences between registering complaints via the Bescom helpline 1912 and the HT Mithra app. He noted, “When consumers register a complaint on 1912, it consumes time for call center executives to locate and direct the complaint to the appropriate officials, resulting in significant delays. In contrast, the app has officials mapped out, allowing immediate notifications to them once a consumer registers a complaint.”

“A designated countdown of six hours is established for officials to address issues, as mandated by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). This countdown is visible to both consumers and Bescom division officials. If the problem is not resolved timely, it gets escalated to senior engineers and ultimately to the Managing Director,” he explained.

To date, Bescom has resolved over 200 complaints lodged by HT consumers. After problems are resolved, consumers receive a notification prompting them to provide feedback and mark the complaint as ‘closed’ on the app.

Shivashankara also explained that if a consumer believes a complaint is still unresolved, they can select the ‘reopen’ option, which will be addressed by senior officials.

Future Developments and Features of HT Mithra App

Following positive feedback from HT consumers, Bescom is also planning to launch an app tailored for low-tension (LT) consumers, who typically include residential connections. “The LT Mithra app will be rolled out shortly to ensure LT consumers can also register complaints and seek resolutions,” he mentioned.

Key Features of the HT Mithra App include:

  • Consumers can track the status of their complaints.
  • A soft copy of electricity bills is available for easy access.
  • Post-registration, consumers can identify their assigned jurisdictional engineers.
  • Consumers have the ability to update their registered mobile number when necessary.

Overall, while the HT Mithra app serves as a valuable tool for facilitating better customer service, increasing user awareness remains crucial for maximizing its impact among electricity consumers.
