On Monday, the Karnataka government initiated the establishment of 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas across the state, targeting 6,000 gram panchayats and 4,000 urban local body wards. This significant move includes the introduction of guidelines and a funding calendar to ensure smooth operation of these youth organizations.
Each sangha will receive an annual funding of ₹10 lakh from the government, with a total annual expenditure of ₹1,010 crore allocated for the project. The focus of these sanghas will be on promoting sports, cultural activities, and community development.
Framework and Objectives
The activity framework of the sanghas encompasses a broad spectrum of initiatives including sports and fitness, community development, cultural and skill development, forest and environmental conservation, health and wellness, and youth empowerment.
Implemented under the supervision of the Sports and Youth Empowerment Department, the project also ensures that each sangha will be supported by a coach whose monthly compensation is set at ₹24,000. According to the guidelines, each sangha must be registered under the Karnataka Societies Act and must consist of at least 100 members aged between 16 and 35 years.
Governance Structure
To manage the formation of each sangha, a reservation roster for the executive committee has been established. The tenure of this committee is fixed at two years, ensuring ongoing governance and support for its activities. The Chief Minister of Karnataka will chair the state-level implementation committee, overseeing the overall operations and success of these youth organizations.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to fostering youth participation and engagement through structured community efforts, thereby enhancing both social and skill development in the region.
