NEW DELHI: The police in Uttar Pradesh have initiated legal proceedings against an American national named Jordan Brown, who was arrested for attempting to enter Nepal without the necessary authorization and valid documentation, as confirmed by officials to news agency ANI.
Authorities have lodged a case against Brown at the Sonauli Police Station under Sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, which pertains to entering India without valid documents.
Details of the Incident
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Siddharth from Maharajganj, security personnel discovered Brown near the Sonauli border during a routine patrol. When approached by the authorities, he allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended swiftly.
Upon detainment, investigators found that Brown lacked a passport, visa, or any form of identification. “On July 11, the SSB apprehended an individual near Sonauli for attempting to enter Nepal without authorization,” ASP Siddharth explained to ANI.
“During questioning, he revealed that he had traveled to Thailand on a tourist visa, where he lost his passport. He subsequently reached Sri Lanka via a sea route and then arrived in India by sea on November 2, 2025. He had been residing in Goa since then and was trying to travel to Nepal when he was caught,” the ASP noted.
Background Information
Siddharth added that Brown had visited Bali, Indonesia, in May before returning to India, and had spent almost two months in the country without his passport. Brown claimed to be originally from California and stated that he had traveled to 70 different countries.
The detained individual asserted that he studied at the University of California and served six years in the US Navy and Special Forces before leaving the military approximately two years ago.
Journey to Sonauli Border
Brown’s account indicated that he arrived in Goa from the United States about two months ago, stayed for nearly six weeks, and then traveled to Bengaluru. From there, he stated that he took a bus to Lucknow on July 8, continued to Gorakhpur, and ultimately hired a taxi to reach the Sonauli border.
Although Brown claimed that an acquaintance in Bengaluru had his passport, he was unable to provide complete address details or verifiable information about this individual.
Personal Life
In an intriguing revelation, Brown mentioned that he met an Indian woman from Uttarakhand while in Italy three years prior and married her in October 2024. According to his claims, she is currently employed as a yoga instructor.
