The Danish government insists that any resource exploration on the island adhere to its stringent laws, even as Trump promotes potential oil, gas, and mineral development in the region.

Denmark’s Foreign Ministry clarified that a recent trilateral agreement, signed in September with Greenland and the US, does not extend special privileges to American investors over those from NATO or EU nations. Contrary to some perceptions, the agreement strictly maintains the governance of local laws regarding any future resource extraction activities.

US Vision and Controversy

President Trump has made headlines, referring to Greenland as “our new and beautiful Greenland” on Truth Social, suggesting forthcoming large-scale resource exploration. The tripartite agreement, involving the US, Denmark, and Greenland, was inked during an event at the United Nations in New York.
