Kerala is gearing up for intense rainfall and potential flooding on Sunday, August 2, 2026, adding to a series of tumultuous weather patterns that have affected the State in recent days.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 12 districts, warning residents of the risk of heavy rains, flash floods, mudslides, and inundation in roads and neighborhoods. The districts on high alert include Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod.
Interestingly, no weather alerts have been issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. However, the IMD has advised fishers against venturing out into the rough seas that are expected in the following days.
In response to the situation, the Government has instructed district administrations to be on high alert and prepared for any emergencies. Additionally, units from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Kerala State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been requisitioned for swift deployment and are stationed in the districts identified as most susceptible to mudslides and flash floods.
Authorities are closely monitoring the weather conditions, and residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this adverse weather period.
